In 2016-17 we plan to run Level One Intra-School Competitions including elements of Athletics, Basketball, Netball, Football, Tennis, Cricket and Dodgeball. This year, as with last year, there will be certificates for the top 3 boys in Y3/4 and Y5/6 and for the top 3 girls in Y3/4 and Y5/6.

In Level 2 Inter School Competitions we are aiming to attend all available competitions run by the AVSSP and will try to organise some other fixtures between ourselves and local schools. There are competitions in Rugby; Football; Athletics; Basketball; Futsal; Dodgeball; Netball; Table Tennis; Cross Country; Tennis; Orienteering; and Swimming on the calendar and most of our after school clubs are geared up for training the children up for these events as well as an opportunity to learn new skills and meet new friends.

In addition to AVSSP organised competitions we are competing in the local schools Football League held at William Gregg Leisure Centre, Heanor once again and have made a fantastic start - topping the table so far as of November 22nd.

We have also attended the first annual Waingroves Woodland Trust Orienteering Competition which was held in November. The competition was between ourselves, Waingroves Primary and Mundy Junior Schools respectively. It was a great event which offered a great challenge for the children and is a great use of local facilities.

2015-16

Kwik Cricket 2016 As our Year 6 children were away for this competition it gave some of our Year 3, 4 and 5s the opportunity to compete. They had two games, the first of which was a tough game against Coppice which we lost and the second a 2 run defeat to Denby Free. Well done to the boys who competed, a good experience which will hopefully stand them in good stead for playing in future years.
Swimming Gala We took 10 children along to Belper for what was many of the children’s first competitive swimming experience. There were individual races in Front Crawl, Breast Stroke and Back Stroke as well as mixed relays and a whole school relay. The children enjoyed the challenge and the experience as well as having some success along the way, well done to all who competed.
KS1 Football Winners Taking part in our first ever KS1 Football Competition we took along 8 children from year 2. There were 6 teams competing in mini fixtures of 4 a side. Overall Codnor took the title with 11 points including 3 wins and 2 draws, whilst Corfield infants and Howitt finished joint second with 10 points. Also taking part were Langley Mill Infants, Coppice and Heanor Langley Infants. Congratulations to all schools for taking part as well as support from parents and well done to the boys.
Y3-6 Cross Country - Imogen Reeves wins Y5/6 girls race! We took 26 boys and girls from all year groups to this challenging event. The children gave a great effort to complete the course in the quickest time to finish in the best position they could. We had some good finishing positions, most notably Imogen Reeves who finished in 1st place in the Girls Year 5/6 race. A big congratulations to Imogen and to all who took part.
Y4/5 Table Tennis The first time this competition has been organised and therefore the first time we have attended. In a busy afternoon the children who attended had the opportunity to test their skills against players from around the borough. All of our players gave their best during the competition and had lots of opportunity to play.
Y3/4 Sportshall Athletics Once again as one of 11 teams at a busy competition the children did themselves and the school extremely proud! We finished 6th overall with some great performances in the relays and field events alike. We had lots of children for whom it was their first school competition and they did a great job in a buzzing Alfreton Leisure Centre!
Y4-6 Girls Football The first time we have taken a girls team to a football competition and it was a great afternoon for the girls. They had a tricky start against Belper St Johns and Howitt but then draws against Mundy B and Heage, in which we had some great chances to win, meant that the girls finished with their heads held high, and hopefully a desire to play more in the future!
Y5/6 Football The boys were one of 18 teams in a busy, but lovely, afternoon. They were put into a tough group in which they won one, drew one and lost two which left them agonisingly short of qualification. They put in a good team performance which will stand them in good stead for upcoming competitions
Y5/6 Tag Rugby On a beautiful sunny afternoon eleven of our children attended this competition. In the first group of the competition we were up against Duffield (1st), Wessington, Long Row and Fritchley. We won two and drew two of these games meaning we finished 2nd in this group and moved into a group with the other 2nd placed teams. Overall we finished 8th out of 19 teams after a tough 2nd phase of the competition but the children gave it their all!

2014/15 Competitions

2014-15

As of March 2015 the school has run 11 Level 1/ intra school competitions (competition between the children in school), including elements of Athletics, Basketball, Netball and Cross Country. We have had tremendous participation levels across the school and we will look to continue this next year and improve upon it where possible.

We have participated in 12 Level 2/ inter school competitions (competition between children in schools across the borough), including Football for Y5/6; Sportshall Athletics for KS1, Y3/4 and Y5/6 and a mixed Y4-6 team at the Sportshall Plus event; Basketball for Y3/4 and Y5/6; Cross Country for Y5/6; Netball for Y4-6; TAG Rugby for Y4/5/6; Kwik Cricket for Y4-6; and Quad Kids Athletics for Y5/6.

We have had success in the KS1 Sportshall Athletics winning the event we attended and the Sportshall Plus event which we also won. We finished as runners up at the Y5/6 Basketball at Swanwick which allowed us to attend the Borough Finals at Swanwick two weeks later which was a great achievement for the children involved and gave them great confidence for future events.

We also have a Triangular Tag Rugby Tournament planned for 19th June 2015 against Ripley St. Johns and Riddings Junior held at our school for the first time.

Y5/6 Orienteering 2015

On Wednesday 1st July 2015 four of our Y5/6s attended the Orienteering competition at Charles Hill Leisure Complex. It was a sweltering hot day as the children set off attempting to find all 20 markers, using their map reading and teamwork skills, in the fastest time. The boys set off first to find the even numbers and the girls second to find the odds which they both managed in good time. We eventually finished 9th out of 28 teams in the Borough with Ripley St Johns the eventual winners. Even so it was a fantastic effort on the hottest day of the year, they did the school proud! Thanks again to those parents who helped with transport and supporting the children on the day!

Y5/6 Quad Kids Athletics Results 2015 The Year 5 & 6 Quad Kids Athletics was held at Belper School on Monday 15th June 2015. The children performed fantastically well on a beautiful sunny day and finished 10th overall out of 17, finishing 4th out of 6 in the medium schools category. Well done to all involved and thank you to parents for helping with transport and fantastic support!
Y5/6 Basketball 2015 On the 6th February 2015 we attended the Y5/6 Basketball Competition at Swanwick Hall School and finished as Runners-Up to South Wingfield in a tight game which finished 12-8 late on. The children performed and behaved outstandingly well and deserved their place in the final after some heavy victories! They were unfortunate in the final but finishing second still meant that we had the opportunity to attend the Amber Valley Borough Finals, held again at Swanwick Hall School. What a great achievement by all involved and huge thanks again to parents and staff for allowing the children the opportunity - without whom these competitions would be difficult to attend.
Sportshall Plus 2015 On 15th January 2015 we attended the Sportshall Plus Competition and won the event. The children competed in the Obstacle Relay, Sprint Relay, Standing Long Jump, Speed Bounce and the Chest Push Throw and had a fantastic time in an event aimed at building confidence and enjoyment in Athletics.
KS1 Sportshall Athletics 2014 On the 8th October 2014 eight children from Year 2 competed for the first time in the KS1 Sportshall Competition and won by a huge margin. The children competed in the Sprint Relay, Obstacle Relay, Standing Long Jump, Speed Bounce and Chest Push Throw in an event aimed at developing future stars. The children had a fantastic time and we hope to retain our title next year. Thank you to all staff and parents who attended and supported at the event, we couldn't do it without you!
