East Midlands Free Wheelers are a group of volunteers who provide vital services to the NHS completely free of charge, 24/7, and at no cost to the NHS. They deliver essential medical supplies and equipment all over the country.
We want to say a huge thank you to East Midlands Free Wheelers for their kind donation to school of a large quantity of cleaning equipment, PPE, sanitising wipes and masks, and goggles for science. It was very nice of you to think of us!

Our Year 3/4 Dodgeball Team represented us in the AVSSP Year 3/4 Heanor Dodgeball Competition and reached the Semi-Finals as they achieved a 4th place finish!
12 teams representing schools from the Heanor Area took part in the event at Heanor Leisure Centre and competed in 2 groups of 6 before Semi-Finals, a Final and Play-Off games took place. Our children recorded 5 victories from 7 matches including a win against the eventual winners. The children’s determination, honesty, focus and effort during the matches was incredible, their off-court behaviour was also exceptional. I’m very proud of the manner in which they represented us and look forward to seeing how these young athletes develop not just in the rest of this school year but in their remaining years with us.
Thank you to AVSSP for another fantastic competition and thank you to all the parents who were able to give lifts to and from the competition and support the children on the night.
Good morning! A quick reminder that tomorrow is non-uniform day for Mental Health Week. "Dress to Express" - children are invited to come to school in clothing which makes them happy/comfortable ๐งข Thanks ๐
Our Year 2 Dodgeball Team from Mrs Goodburn’s class represented us at the AVSSP KS1 Dodgeball competition at Heanor Leisure Centre. The team played 7 matches against other schools from the Heanor area and 1 match against their own parents! I think it was that match that they preferred the most! Our children improved as the competition went on and whilst we didn’t win many matches they learnt skills that will help them in Dodgeball as they continue to play and progress in it when they arrive in Upper School in September. The children were once again fantastic ambassadors for our school and we should be very proud of them. Their behaviour and honesty was outstanding!
Thank you to AVSSP for another wonderful competition and to our amazing parents for all the help with transporting the children to/from the competition as well as their amazing support and skills on the dodgeball court!
On Friday 3rd February we had a Macmillan coffee morning for children and parents for World Cancer Day. Our coffee morning raised £244.70 for Macmillan! Many thanks to all who took part - children, parents and staff!
Sports update from Mr Hutchinson.
AVSSP Girls Futsal
Our Girls Futsal team competed in AVSSP’s Girls Futsal Competition against schools from across Amber Valley and finished 3rd! The Girls won 3 matches out of 5 and were just 2 points off 1st place! We should all be proud of them not just for their achievements on the pitch but also their focus and behaviour off it. They were fantastic ambassadors for our school. This was evident when a child on the opposing team had suffered an injury during the match and had to go off. The first thing the team did at the full-time whistle was to go and ask the injured child how they were. It was an incredible show of sportsmanship and the children should be very proud of themselves.
Thank you to AVSSP for another fantastic night of Futsal. Thank you to Miss McKirdy for transporting some of the team to the event and for supporting the children.
A huge thank you again to the many parents who were able to help with lifts to/from the event, as a school we’re very lucky to have such supportive parents.
AVSSP Health & Wellbeing Conference
Our newly appointed Mini Leaders from Mrs Hibbitt’s Year 6 class represented at our school at the annual AVSSP Health & Wellbeing Conference. The children learnt fitness activities that they will be able to lead on the playground at break and lunchtimes. They also learnt about the health dangers of some foods and fizzy drinks (just ask them how much sugar is in a bottle of coke!), learnt how to make healthy smoothies and spent some time discussing their mental health and wellbeing. The children once again represented us incredibly well with a high level of maturity. It will be great to see them put what they’ve learnt into practice in their Mini Leader role over the rest of the school year.
As you probably know, members of the NEU voted for strike action on the following dates:
A letter with more information for parents/carers is in Class Letters.
In the meantime, we're advising that parents/carers begin to consider contingency arrangements for childcare in case school (or parts of it) has to close on the above dates.
