Curriculum

Our curriculum intent is shaped by our vision, “Let your light shine”, which underpins our belief that every child has individual strengths and potential. As a Church of England primary school, we deliver a curriculum grounded in Christian values, promoting compassion, respect, community and aspiration. Designed in response to the specific needs of our pupils, our curriculum supports high academic standards while nurturing personal development, enabling all children to shine in their own unique way.

Our curriculum across Early Year is child- centred, play based and purposeful. It is aligned with the Development Matters framework and Statutory EYFS framework. It is built around 7 key areas of learning, including Communication and Language, Personal Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy Development, Mathematics Development, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Our curriculum is designed to develop children's knowledge and skills across EYFS by breaking down learning into small steps, building on what children already know through high quality interactions and a well planned indoor and outdoor environment.

Our Curriculum is based around key principles including:

  • Ensuring that children understand they are unique and individual. All staff are aware that every child is unique and can be resilient, capable, confident and self- assured.
  • Ensuring that children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
  • Ensuring that children learn and develop well in an enabling environment.  in which they have access to a range of resources and experiences.
  • An understanding that all children are different and learn and develop in different ways and at different rates. This principle covers all children, including children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Our curriculum is based on the objectives from the Development Matters framework. Please see below for our Curriculum Progression documents:

Skills based planning

Alongside our curriculum progression document, our curriculum is built around skills based planning, which ensures children develop essential skills they need to learn and thrive. We work with specific children and specific skills to ensure progress across all seven areas of the EYFS.

Learning is carefully planned around children's skills and next steps through purposeful play, exploration, high quality interaction and a stimulating and engaging learning environment.  ensuring children develop the essential skills they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our Enrichment also includes inviting families into school for performances, school fayres, parents workshops and stay and play sessions.

Enrichment

Enrichment is a key part of our curriculum design. Our Early Years goes beyond the classroom to provide enriching experiences that spark curiosity and build cultural capital. Children in Nursery and Reception have opportunities to:

  • Explore the local community and environment

  • Participate in visits, workshops, and special events

  • Engage with the arts, music, and role play activities

  • Experience first-hand learning that links to their topics and interests

These enrichment activities help children develop a love of learning, curiosity about the world, and confidence in trying new experiences, ensuring they are well-prepared for the next stage of their education.
