KS2 School Games Platinum Award AND
KS1 Derbyshire Active Schools Network Gold Mark!

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Key Stage 2 School Games Platinum Award for the 2022/23 Academic Year! We are only one of two schools in Amber Valley to achieve this Award! This is the highest award that can be achieved for Key Stage 2 Level PE and Sport.

We have also been awarded the Key Stage 1 Derbyshire Active Schools Network Gold Mark for the 2022/23 Academic Year. This is the highest award achievable for Key Stage 1 Level PE and Sport.

As part of our applications for both awards we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs - and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded.

School Games Award
The School Games Award is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

The School Games Award has 3 Levels that schools can apply for: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Once a school has achieved and retained Gold status for 4 years they are allowed to apply for the Platinum Award - so this achievement has been in the making since 2018/19!

The School Games Platinum Award carries on for the current 2023/24 Academic Year, meaning we don't have to reapply for the Award until 2024/25.

Derbyshire Active Schools Network Award
The KS1 DASN Award is a Derbyshire programme designed to give infant and primary schools a framework to support the development of the subject at Key Stage 1. Successful applicants receive recognition of the work they do that demonstrates the school's commitment to providing a broad and rich PE, school sport and physical activity offer for all pupils. We will be reapplying for the Derbyshire Schools PE & School Sport Mark Gold for 2023/24.

2022/23 Sporting Events
A total of 146 children (82% of KS2 and 56% of KS1) represented us in 40 inter-school competitions and events across Heanor and Amber Valley as a whole in 2022/23. We are extremely proud of our all of our children for their dedication to all aspects of school sport. With a total of 53 Sporting Events currently pencilled in to our 2023/24 Sporting Calendar, we aim to offer extra-curricular sporting opportunities to even more of our children.

Thank You
We must give a huge thank you to Amber Valley School Sport Partnership for organising so many incredible Sporting Events for our children to participate in and also to Heanor Town FC for organising The William Gregg VC Cup. Thank you as well to all the parents that helped with transport to and from events in 2022/23. The level of help and support we receive is incredible and without it we wouldn't be able to take so many children to events.

A special mention must go to Mr Rob Webb who left us last year, and over many years laid the foundations for today's successes. Finally, thank you to Mr Shaw and all at AVSSP for supporting with staff CPD, planning, and all things PE and Sport on top of their incredible events offer.
