"I love doing PSHE at school because it gives us a calm mindset!"

Our Vision for Pupils at Codnor Primary School

At Codnor, our dream is for every child to leave our school as someone who can truly let their light shine—confident, compassionate, and ready to thrive in the world.

We aim to build:

Kind, empathetic and compassionate individuals:

  • Our pupils understand the impact of their words and actions and choose to use this responsibility positively, showing respect, support and care for others.

Young people who build positive relationships

  • They are capable of forming and maintaining strong friendships, cooperating as part of a team, and working through disagreements by listening to others and expressing their own feelings. They also understand when relationships are unhealthy and how to make safe choices about who they connect with.

Children who celebrate individuality and inclusivity

  • Our pupils embrace and value the uniqueness of every person, including themselves. They are proud of who they are, pursue their dreams with confidence, and recognise the importance of valuing and including everyone, regardless of differences.

Emotionally resilient and mindful learners

  • Children develop a clear understanding of their emotions and a toolkit of strategies to express and regulate them. They place great value on their own wellbeing and are able to respond positively to challenges and setbacks.

Confident and courageous individuals

  • Pupils face challenges with determination, celebrate their own achievements, and know when to ask for help. They understand that asking for support is a strength, not a weakness.

Young people prepared for life’s changes

  • Our children are equipped with the vocabulary and knowledge to voice concerns, ask questions, and make safe, healthy choices for their bodies and minds as they grow.

Critical and reflective thinkers

  • They ask questions about the world around them, form their own opinions, challenge stereotypes, and understand that people see the world in different ways.

At Codnor, we aim to nurture well-rounded, thoughtful, and caring individuals who are confident in themselves, considerate of others, and ready to make a positive difference in the world.

RSE:

At Codnor Primary School, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is taught carefully as part of our wider PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) programme. We focus on supporting children to develop healthy, respectful relationships, understand their own feelings, and make safe, positive choices as they grow.

In July 2025, the UK Department for Education published updated statutory guidance on Relationships Education, RSE and Health Education, which will come into force on 1 September 2026. This means that schools across England will be expected to adapt their curriculum to meet the new requirements by that date, and we are already preparing our teaching to reflect this guidance. The updated guidance aims to help pupils build essential life skills — including understanding respect, boundaries and wellbeing — in a way that is age‑appropriate and supports their emotional and social development.

We are in the process of consulting all members of our school community on the implementation of the new RSE guidance. Please keep an eye on ParentHub for updates.
