Welcome to Reception!
Welcome to our reception class page. Our reception children taught by Mrs Perks and Mrs Rogers and our teaching assistants are Mrs Shaw, Mrs Thornhill, Mrs Peters and Miss Clark.
Our reception children are part of our Early Years Foundation Stage. We continue to build on the children's prior learning from home, nursery and other childcare settings. Although we have a topic each half term, our approach is very child led, the children have many opportunities throughout the day to explore our indoor and outdoor environment, choosing and selecting their own resources and play opportunities. During the day every child will work with adults during provision to develop their knowledge and skills further in all areas of the curriculum. We also have daily whole class phonics and mathematics sessions every morning, and an afternoon carpet time.
Twice a week, we have PE with our specialist sports coach Mr Hutchinson.
Penguins!
This half term we have been looking at the story 'Lost and Found'. We created lost posters for The Penguin after the little boy lost him in the South Pole. Our penguin then visited us, and told us he had made lots of friends in the South Pole. We have been learning all about Antarctica, the animals live their, the differences between here and England and the weather.
Fun in Gymnastics!
This half term, we are doing Gymnastics in our PE sessions. We have been practising our balances and our partner balances. We have been learning the skills of finding a partner and working together to find a matching balance.
Making Reindeer food
After a very exciting visit from Santa's reindeers, we made our very own reindeer food to put outside on Christmas Eve. We mixed oats and raisins together and scooped and poured them into our reindeer food packet.
Outdoor Learning
We have recently started using our new Outdoor Area! We have had lots of fun developing our skills such as creating obstacle courses together, using the mud kitchen, developing our bike skills and using the large construction to make and create.
Christmas Church Visit
Unfortunately we couldn't visit the Church as planned this year due to the weather, but they very kindly offered to come into school. We read the Nativity Story with our School Chaplain, Mrs Cross and then made our own Nativity stick puppet characters. We even had a biscuit!
