  • Y3&4 Athletics Champions!

    Tue 29 Oct 2019

It was the turn of our Year 3 and 4 children on Tuesday night, and they were looking to go one better than last years year 3 and 4s by winning the competition. We had 14 children in our team, with two girls at their first ever competition, but every single one of them performed brilliantly. We started the competition on Speed Bounce with every child scoring 30 or more, which was a fantastic start, and this was followed by some brilliant Chest Push Throws and super Standing Long Jumps to give us a great score in the field events.

We moved on to the relay races next with the boys finishing the obstacle race in 1st place and the girls in 3rd place which was an excellent start. In the hurdle and sprint races, both boys and girls performed brilliantly, finishing the races in the top 4 leaving us with an excellent chance of finishing in the top 3.

When it came to the results we were left in the top 3 and we were told that there was 40 points between 1st and 3rd place - in the end we were delighted to find out we would be crowned champions for the second time in a week leaving us extremely proud of our athletics teams for 2019!

Well done to our teams and to all our staff and parents who have supported along the way.

  • Y5&6 Athletics Champions!

    Fri 11 Oct 2019

On Tuesday night, our year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics team went along to Alfreton Leisure Centre hoping to win the competition and be the first Codnor Y5/6 Champions in the event.

They would first compete in field events of Chest Push Throw, Standing Long Jump and Speed Bounce. Our children performed brilliantly in all of these events with many personal bests - 2 of our children jumping over 2 metres in the Standing Long Jump which was outstanding!

After the field events we moved on to the relays, with both teams performing brilliantly in the obstacle relay - the boys finishing 1st and girls 2nd. In the hurdle race the boys finished 3rd and the girls 2nd again to keep up the good results. In our final competitive race of the night, the sprint, the boys again won their race with the girls finishing 4th leaving us with a great chance of being in the top 3.

When it was announced we had finished 1st, the children, staff and parents were delighted with the result! Many of them have worked hard for this event and it was a culmination of many years' effort as some of the children have competed in the event for 4/5 years in a row!

An amazing achievement for some amazing children. You have done yourselves and the school really proud. Well done to all involved! no frown

  • Double Sporting Gold!

    Fri 20 Sep 2019

Fantastic news! Today, Mr Shaw from Amber Valley School Sports Partnership visited school to award us with DOUBLE GOLD for our commitment to school sports. To win this, we beat all the other primary, junior and infant schools in Amber Valley! frown no That's one better than last year, when we won a silver and gold. Thank you to our amazing staff who organise and run training sessions, to our parents who ferry children to competitions - and, of course, to our brilliant children themselves.

Here's a picture of two of our children accepting the award, with Mr Webb and Mr Shaw.

  • Y3/4 Mini Tennis Champions!

    Thu 28 Mar 2019

On Wednesday night, four of our children went along to Ecclesbourne School to play in the AVSSP Y3/4 Mini Tennis Borough Finals as one of the top 4 teams in Amber Valley, having won the Heanor Cluster competition.

Each of them would play 3 matches against opponents from Heage Primary, Pottery Primary and Riddings Junior - last year's champions - to decide who would be 2018/19 Borough Champions.

All four of our children played some fantastic tennis on the night, winning 9 of the 12 games they played, having improved greatly on their cluster competition performances and setting a really high standard of tennis.

In the end, we ran out Borough Champions – the first time our school has achieved this feat – and an amazing result which will see our Mini Tennis team attending the 2019 Derbyshire Schools County Finals! frown

Terrific Tennis skills boys and girls and thanks as always to parents for your support. no

  • Comic Relief - Final Total!

    Tue 19 Mar 2019

We raised £800! What an amazing total! Huge thanks to our brilliant children and community for their support of this worthwhile charity through our school. Comic Relief helps fund good causes in this country and abroad - there's more information about the work they do here <-- Click! In total, Comic Relief managed to raise nearly £64 million.

Our children had a great non-uniform day, running their own stalls which included cake sales, games, toy sales, guess the weight of the cake, and more. Children planned and resourced their stalls themselves - with help from the great people at home! frown

The picture below shows the event in full swing - and some children still had a few cakes left to sell to parents at the end of the school day!

    Thanks again!

  • Y5/6 Basketball Finals Runners-Up!

    Mon 10 Dec 2018

Last week, our Y5/6 Basketballers went along to Aldercar High School to play in the Borough Finals for the second year running. The top 7 teams from the Amber Valley Borough were there after qualifying from their cluster competitions, in which 36 teams entered. We were grouped with Belper St Johns – who we beat 2-0 with a brilliant basket from Callum; Long Row with whom we scraped a 0-0 draw; and Mundy who beat us 6-2 in a game which we played very well. Due to other results this meant we finished second in our group and moved into the semi-finals to play the other group winners Kilburn.

It was at this point that the team came to life with Callum again scoring to make it 2-0 before Kilburn drew level again. Olivia then scored to make it 4-2 before Callum got an injury going into the final few minutes. Reece then scored to make it 6-2 at which point we knew we would make the final and the team were delighted to be our first Basketball team to make the Borough Finals Final! It turned out we would play Howitt again, as in the cluster final, after they defeated Mundy and the team were determined to do their best.

With Callum fit enough to play we started the game strongly taking the lead with another basket from Callum before being pegged back to 2-2 and then going 4-2 behind to another basket. Despite this, we were on top in the game with Sam and Robbie making great steals and dribbles eventually leading to another basket by Olivia to make it 4-4, which soon after turned to 6-4 as Jakub scored after another rebound. With only a minute left we just needed to hold out to the end to win the competition. Unfortunately we couldn’t make it and Howitt brought it back to 6-6 to take it to ‘golden basket’ overtime. Sadly for us Howitt again won on the 'golden basket' with a calm finish to leave the team gutted but proud of their achievement – which they absolutely should be – having played brilliant basketball on both nights and giving everything to win the competition.

Well done Basketballers! You did us proud. no
