Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school.
Derbyshire County Council are providing hampers for children who are registered to have Free School Meals. Please note this does not mean the universal free school meals that children in Reception to Y2 receive – only those who are registered for Free School Meals are entitled to a hamper.
There will be one hamper available for each child who is registered for Free School Meals, but parents/carers have to claim these first.
To claim the hamper, please email your children's names and classes to meals@codnor.derbyshire.sch.uk, and we will add you to the list. If you are unable to email, then you can call school, but we'd much rather you emailed if possible to avoid swamping the phones.
The hampers will be delivered at some point next week for you to collect from school. We’ll let you know when and how.
You must let us know if you want the hamper by 3.30PM on Monday 30th March, as we have to put the orders in then.
For more information about Derbyshire's Free School Meals, see our Useful Information page.
Thank you.
We've made arrangements for you to pick up your child's home learning pack this Thursday (26th March). For social distancing purposes, and to minimise contact with others, we have allocated the following rough times for you to pick these up. Packs for all classes will be available all day, so if you have two children in different classes, you can pick both of the packs up on the same trip.
Following government guidelines, you are allowed to come out of your house for exercise, so this trip would count as that.
If by mutual agreement, you are able to pick anyone else’s up (e.g. if they are self-isolating or at work), then that would be helpful.
We are hoping to have the packs on tables on the school field, but if the weather doesn’t allow this, then the packs will be in the lower school hall.
If you really cannot make the time slot, then that’s not a problem – come up in the afternoon, but to keep everyone as safe as possible, please try to keep to the times if you can.
Thanks, and we hope you're well.
To make social distancing work in reducing the spread of COVID-19, the government says that if it is at all possible for children to be looked after at home, they should be. Many parents who are key workers may be able to ensure their child remains at home. Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.
Information about who is considered a key worker is available here on the government's site.
At school, we are providing education packs for children who are learning from home. These will be available next week – we’ll let you know when. There are also some activities on our website here.
Children who are attending school will not be covering our usual curriculum. They will complete some of the same work from the packs, but will also do a topic-based project which will involve different subjects. Depending on numbers, the children will be taught together.
This provision will not be the same as a normal school day, and children will not be required to wear school uniform.
Lunch will follow exactly the same routines as normal. School dinners will be provided, and children may bring sandwiches.
There may be days when you can keep your child at home. Following the government's guidelines, this is preferable, but you must ring the school office in the morning so that we know your child is safe at home.
On the morning of Monday 23rd March, the upper school hall will open from 8.45AM. All children who have been previously registered must report to there, including nursery children. Our staff will be there to receive them.
Some parents have asked if there will be provision during the Easter holidays. This is currently under review but if this was to happen, it would most likely be provided by a third-party company.
Again, the key message here is to minimise the risk. If you can keep your children safe at home, then you should do that.
We are writing to let you know that in line with the Government policy, school will be closed to pupils from Friday. Staff will be working to provide parents/carers with printed home-learning packs with some activities for pupils to do. We'll let you know when these are ready. In the meantime, there are some useful activities on our website at the address below.
We will keep you updated.

After recent spates of anti-social behaviour in the Codnor/Waingroves area, Tesco Express have organised for Local Support Officers from Ripley Police Station to visit the store on 22nd Feb from 2.00-4.00PM. This will give local residents the chance to talk to the officers about their concerns, and what they want to see in the local area. We'd also like to thank Tesco Express very much for raising a further £55 for school to buy children's books. Much appreciated!
You may have noticed an increased police presence around school recently. Several of our staff are helping police with their investigations as witnesses to the anti-social behaviour.
On Tuesday night we took along two handball teams, a year 3 and a year 4 team, both looking to win this competition for the first time for our school. Our year 3 team would play games against Mundy 'A', Langley Mill and Richardson, drawing 3-3 against Langley Mill and losing the other 2 games, whilst showing improvement every game. This meant that they would playoff for 10th place, which they did successfully with wins against 2 teams from Langley Mill.
Our year 4 team were grouped with Mundy 'B', Marlpool and Langley Mill and they were fantastic in their game play winning all 3 games with great attacking and defending skills and fantastic teamwork. This meant that they would progress to playoff for the chance to win the competition against Mundy 'A' and Denby. In the first game we took a 3-0 lead but were then pegged back to 3-2 before scoring two penalties to make it 5-2. Mundy scored again to make it a nervous end but we ended the game 5-3 winners!
Mundy then beat Denby, meaning we knew that a draw would be good enough to win the competition, which we did in style with a convincing 5-2 win against Denby.
The children were rightly delighted with their success, but were still good sports as they shook hands, and even tried to console one of Denby's team who was upset at their defeat. The win continues our fantastic start to the year, having now won 4 competitions, and we just hope we can continue this amazing success for 2020!
On Tuesday night 6 of our Y5/6 children went along to Aldercar High School to participate in the AVSSP Basketball competition. After finishing as runners-up in the last two years we were determined to go one better this year and win the competition. The team started brilliantly, beating Langley Mill 10-0 in the first game and Mundy 'B' 4-0 in the second. Moving into the final two games, we knew it would be tougher as we had to play Howitt first, the team who beat us in two finals last year, but this year they were no match for our aggressive basketball as we ran out 4-0 winners once again.
In the final game we faced Mundy 'A', who had also won all of their games, which essentially made this a final, and what a final it was! We started nervously, gifting Mundy an early basket, but this got our players going and a great basket from Jayden drew us level to settle the nerves. The game was end to end from here on in with both teams playing great basketball with some great steals and interceptions.
With 45 seconds to go, Mundy scored and it looked like we would be defeated once again in the final, but our team showed great resilience to draw level with a superb basket from the irrepressible Sam.
Therefore the game went to overtime, as we had done in our last two basketball finals (which we lost), but this year Tom stepped up to score the winning basket!
It was a fantastic team performance in which everyone contributed and every player showed great teamwork, commitment and resilience to finally come through and win the competition. We are immensely proud of the team and all children who attend these competitions as they always give it their all, whilst showing great sportsmanship and fair play. The team will go on to play in the basketball finals in two weeks and try and do it all again!
