Bournemouth day 4, and it's Monkey World! A super day, with fantastic weather again! ![]()
Our Y3/4 football teams went along to Heanor Town Football Club on Friday 29th June to play in the first ever Junior Gregg Cup.
Our 'B' team drew 1 game against Langley Mill but lost the other 3 games against Mundy 'A', Howitt 'B' and Loscoe respectively.
Our 'A' team had a very successful afternoon though as they beat Kilburn 2-0 and Mundy 'B' 3-0 and drew 0-0 with Howitt 'A' and 1-1 with Marlpool. This meant that we finished 2nd in our group to progress to the semi-final to play Mundy 'A'.
In a tense, tight game we went 1-0 down early before equalising with a spectacular goal to take the game to penalties. The first penalty for Mundy was saved before we scored, the second penalty for Mundy hit the crossbar meaning we had to score to win, which we did!
This took us to the final to play Howitt 'A' again. Another tense, tight game was settled by one long range goal from Howitt. Despite all our efforts to get back into the game, we finished as runners-up which is always a tough place to finish, but the boys did themselves and the school very proud - well done to all and thanks to all the supporters!
Last Monday, our swimming team went along to Belper to compete in the Y5/6 swimming gala once again. All of our year 6s had been along to the competition in the previous year and finished second and so were determined to go one better this year, whilst for the year 5s it was a whole new experience!
Throughout the gala, all of our swimmers performed fantastically, finishing in either 1st or 2nd in their individual and paired races. As we moved into the boys’ and girls’ relays, again we finished second in both races meaning that we knew we had a chance to win the competition! It therefore went down to the final team race to see who would finish as champions – and with every child involved in the race, it was great way to finish!
We led the race from the half-way stage, and there was no catching us from there on in! A fantastic finish to the competition and a huge WELL DONE to all the children. We’d also like to add a BIG thanks to Mrs Palmer for her help on the day. ![]()
Our Year 2 boys went along to the KS1 Football Competition at Aldercar High on Tuesday night - a lovely sunny afternoon. They played six games altogether. Three in the first group stage in which they drew 0-0 with Heanor Langley, and then won 1-0 and 3-0 against Coppice Primary and Langley Mill Infants respectively!
This meant that we progressed to the top 4 to play off for the chance to win the competition. We came up against Coppice Primary once again, who we beat 1-0 in a close game, but we then lost 3-0 to the eventual champions Corfield Infants, before drawing 1-1 with Richardson Primary to finish as runners up overall.
The boys did themselves and our school proud with the way they played and behaved throughout the afternoon. They also looked fantastic in their brand new kit sponsored by Jacksdale MOT Centre which was provided to us by Owen Oxley and Full Reptile. Big thanks to all parents who came along to support too!
We like to help parents keep up-to-date with all that's happening online. Many thanks for all your positive comments about how this is helping to keep your children safe while they're playing the latest craze! ![]()
We've updated our parents' guides (Screen Addiction, Roblox, Snapchat and Fortnite - click here for these) and our Safety Online section for children (click here for this) which the children and staff all wrote together. It's well worth a look!
The picture below shows our group discussion! These people know a lot about online safety!
We hope you find this useful.
We just managed to avoid the rain, and visitors to our May Fair had a great time as the sun shone! We raised a massive £1254! Thanks to everyone who visited, to Friends of Codnor School for organising the event, and to everyone who helped out. We couldn't do it without you! Click here for some great pics!
Our Year 6 Netballers became the fifth school team to win a competition this year with a 5-1 win over Langley Mill Junior, and a 1-0 win over Loscoe Primary. The children played some fantastic Netball, showing great teamwork and resilience, especially in the final two halves of their games. They will go on to play in the Netball Finals against the best teams in the borough in two weeks’ time. Well done Netballers! We are very proud once again – what a fantastic sporting year we are having! ![]()
