Sports update from Mr Hutchinson.
AVSSP Indoor Rowing Plus
A group of children from across the school were chosen to represent us in the AVSSP Indoor Rowing Plus competition and finished 3rd! The children received Bronze wrist bands as a reward for their high placing.
The competition was at Ripley Leisure Centre and featured schools from across the borough of Amber Valley. Our children took part in both individual and team relay races on rowing machines against other schools. Myself and Miss McKirdy were very impressed with how incredibly supportive the children were of their team mates. My personal highlight was seeing the children enjoy themselves in what was a new activity and new setting for most of them.
Thank you to AVSSP for another fun competition!
We should all be proud of how passionate and well behaved all the children were when representing the school, they were incredible!
AVSSP Indoor Rowing
A group of our Year 6 children were chosen to represent us in the AVSSP Indoor Rowing competition and finished 11th. The competition was at Ripley Leisure Centre and featured schools from across the borough of Amber Valley, split in to 3 Heats. We were placed into the 3rd Heat which unfortunately meant we had A LOT of waiting, but I was incredibly impressed with the patience and focus shown by the children (and parents!)
As I now know is the norm at our wonderful school, the children were incredibly passionate and supportive towards each other. I could not have asked any more from any of them as they gave their all for the school on the rowing machines and supported each other when off them, they were perfect.
Thank you to AVSSP for another fantastic competition despite the challenging circumstances! The range of activities and opportunities they offer us are on par or above any borough in the county!
A massive thank you as well to all the parents, guardians and grandparents who helped with lifts to and from the event – I have honestly been blown away with the level of support we have received from our parents and families, I speak to Sports Co-ordinators regularly and know that they are not always as lucky as we are in the level of help we get from our school community, thank you!
Sports update from Mr Hutchinson.
Our Year 5/6 Boys Futsal Team went to the recent AVSSP Boys Futsal competition and finished 5th, winning 2 and drawing 2 games out of 5 ⭐️
We are immensely proud of how our children performed on and off the pitch, they were fantastic ambassadors for our school.
Many thanks must go to the parents who transported our children to the competition to represent us and thank you to AVSSP for organising such a fantastic event 👍👍
This is Mr Chris Hutchinson, our new PE/Sports Coach. He started with us on our inset day today, and is absolutely committed to continuing the development of our children's love of PE and sports. Please do say hi when you see him around school! Mr Hutchinson has worked closely with Amber Valley School Sport Partnership in the past, and will make a fantastic addition to our team. We're all looking forward to working with him. To Chris: you are very welcome here and we're glad you're joining us at Codnor Primary School.
We must also thank Mr Rob Webb for all his excellent work during his time with us.
We had to post to say two huge thanks. 👍 THANK YOU to The Poet and Castle and their brilliant Craft Sellers for donating £110 from their first Craft Fair to our school! That was extremely kind and generous. ❤️ THANK YOU also to our whole community and Friends of Codnor for raising £1200 at the Christmas Fair. This is spent on things which directly benefit our children (e.g. Christmas panto and pressies). Our fabulous community at work again, and you are all very appreciated. 🙂
Thank you to our community for making the Christmas Fair a success. 👍 From those who donated prizes to those who helped to set up, run the event, and clear up afterwards, we had a great deal of support. Thanks to all who were able to come along. Must also add that we’re very proud of our choir, who beat the nerves and sang beautifully! ❤️ One member of staff who hasn’t been with us very long said, “There’s such a lovely community spirit here.” Well put!! Thank you again 🙂

We are holding an 'Open Evening' in school for prospective parents and children who are wishing to send their child to our school. This is particularly open to parents whose children are due to start in Reception class in September 2023. The event is taking place on Monday 21st November from 15.30 - 17.00 p.m.
Dear all. Just a reminder that Friday is Pudsey Day! Non-uniform (no particular theme) and we’re not asking for donations this year. Instead, we’re raffling off the wonderful knitted toys generously produced by Dorothy (a friend of our school) and one of our children’s grandparents. What a skill! Tickets are £1 per strip, and all proceeds go to Children in Need.
Children can buy tickets directly from their class teacher.
